how to play

Rules

  1. Have each of the players turn around and close their eyes.

  2. Slowly play each string starting with string one, ending with string six.

  3. Before playing each string say, “This is string (string number)”.

  4. Once finished, choose a random string to play.

  5. Now say, ”Who’s that string?” and then play the string.

  6. Play it a second time in case it wasn’t heard properly the first time.

  7. Ask the players, “Put up your hand if you think it was string one”.

  8. Then ask, "String Two, String Three?” etc.

  9. Note who guessed the right string.

  10. Now have the students open their eyes.

  11. Tell them which string it was while playing the string again.

  12. Let each player that got it right know they did.

  13. Continue the game until someone has gotten three correct.

  14. This person is the winner, give each winner some kind of prize.

Tips

  • Make sure each player keeps their eye closed while playing.

  • If the game is too hard, choose fewer strings to play with.

  • Once it starts to get easy, substitute the string note names instead of numbers:

    • 1=E

    • 2=B

    • 3=G

    • 4=D

    • 5=A

    • 6=E

Learning Outcomes

This game has several learning outcomes:

  • To help teach the student the number name of each string.

  • To help the student learn the note name of each string.

  • To improve the student's ability to differentiate each string by it's sound alone.

  • To improve the students aural (listening) skills
