our story

In 2005, amidst the melodies and rhythm of a home studio, Fretvision sprang to life under the watchful eyes of Jake Lang. From those modest beginnings, it wasn’t long before the hum of eager students meant that the walls of the studio could no longer contain the passion and growth. Within a blink, Jake found himself in a more expansive space, bringing on board a symphony of talented staff to cater to the burgeoning roster of students.

By the time the calendar flipped to 2009, Fretvision's footprint was seen echoing in the hallways of primary schools, bustling colleges, and even during the lively school holiday programs orchestrated by YMCA. From the vision of one guitarist, there emerged a harmonious collective of Canberra's finest musicians. Each one, with their unique notes and rhythms, united in their mission to share their profound knowledge and fervour for music. This heralded the birth of our school music programs.

At Fretvision, we’re rooted in the belief that the rhythmic dance between students and teachers can paint a symphony, which not only enriches individual lives but weaves an entire community into an intricate melody. And when a community is so deeply connected, every note played, every song sung, adds meaning to our lives. This is our driving force, our forte, as we endeavour to offer unrivalled music tuition to every corner of Canberra.

Attendance

Attendance Policy and Class Management

Class Cancellation Policy

We kindly request a minimum of 24 hours' notice should you need to cancel a lesson for any reason. Failure to provide adequate notice will result in the forfeiture of the lesson. You may cancel or reschedule through the link provided in the email reminder you receive prior to each lesson. Additionally, you may notify us via email, text message, or voicemail. Our team checks messages daily to ensure your requests are promptly addressed.

Rescheduling Options

If your child misses a lesson, rest assured you have options. Your child is welcome to attend a different class offered at the same school either later that week or as a double session the following week. Should a class be cancelled owing to a public holiday or a school event, a one-time make-up lesson will be scheduled either on an alternative day or in the subsequent week.

Class Credit Policy

In instances where it is not possible to reschedule or attend a make-up class during the term, you may be eligible to receive a credit towards future payments. For more details on how to apply for lesson credit, please click here.

Class Termination Procedure

While our program is enriching, we understand that circumstances change. You may choose to discontinue classes at any point without a term commitment. We simply ask for two weeks' notice whenever feasible. To formalise the termination, please complete the provided Termination Form.

Student Conduct Expectations

We believe in a respectful and focused learning environment. Students are required to adhere to classroom rules and guidelines. In the event of rule-breaking, students will receive warnings. Accumulating three warnings results in the loss of a Fretpoint. Should a student lose two Fretpoints (equivalent to six warnings), an official warning procedure will begin: the first warning involves a phone call to parents, the second is communicated via email, and upon the third official warning, the student will be disengaged from the program and payments will cease. For more information on class rules and Fretpoints, please click here.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation and commitment to maintaining a positive and productive learning environment. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's musical education.

FEES

Tuition Fee Payment Guidelines

Direct Debit Payments

We utilise the secure and reliable services of Ezypay for our direct debit payment processing.

Billing Schedule

Payments are consistently billed every second Friday, two weeks ahead of your scheduled lessons. Each term consists of 10 lessons, priced at $30 per lesson. This equates to six fortnightly payments of $50, accumulating to a total of $300 per term.

Year-End Payment Pause

Please note that your payments will be paused for a four-week period following the conclusion of Term 4. Billing will resume during the final two weeks of the school holidays, leading into Term 1.

Failed Payment Policy

In the unfortunate event of a failed payment due to insufficient funds, an $8.80 penalty fee will be applied and the payment will be reattempted the following Friday. To help you manage your account, we offer a courtesy text message reminder prior to each billing cycle. If you prefer not to receive these reminders, simply reply 'STOP' to opt out. Should a payment issue arise, please contact us prior to the next billing date to avoid incurring additional fees.

Transparent Billing

We take pride in our transparent billing policy. Though you may encounter language about additional fees or charges in Ezypay's terms and conditions, rest assured that you will not be subject to these; we have absorbed all such costs on your behalf.

Payment Setup

To initiate your payment setup, kindly proceed to our Pricing Page.

We are committed to offering a straightforward and hassle-free payment process. If you have any questions or need further clarification, we are always here to assist you. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's musical education.

PRACTICE

Practice Guidelines: Unlocking the Joy of Music

The Importance of Regular Practice

While weekly lessons are valuable for your child's musical development, consistent practice between lessons amplifies their progress. Even though children may initially show reluctance toward practice, it's entirely normal. Research substantiates that even weekly lessons alone have the power to bring about long-lasting, positive changes in a child's cognitive development.

In our experience, the delight of music often takes time to discover. Once children find this joy for themselves, practice becomes a self-motivated endeavour.

Recommended Practice Durations

  • Years 1 to 3: We suggest a manageable 5 - 10 minutes per day.

  • Years 4 to 6: At least one hour per week is recommended.

  • High School Students: We advise dedicating between two to five hours per week.

  • Advanced Students: As competency grows, aspiring musicians should aim for one to two hours of daily practice.

Remember, some of the world's most renowned musicians commit to over eight hours of practice per day!

For effective results, we recommend establishing a structured daily practice routine, concentrating on different aspects of musicianship across five days a week.

The Role of Parental Involvement

Parents play an instrumental role in fostering a consistent practice routine. Rather than making practice feel like a chore, your enthusiasm and interest in your child’s musical journey can be incredibly motivating. We provide a weekly homework sheet to guide and log practice sessions.

Here are some additional ways you can inspire your child:

  • Listen to music as a shared activity.

  • Watch live music performances together.

  • Engage in musical games More Info Here.

  • Hold family jam sessions or sing-alongs.

Your active participation and encouragement are key elements in your child's musical journey. Thank you for your support and for entrusting us with their musical education.

EQUIPMENT

Instrument Maintenance and Equipment Guidelines

Instrument Maintenance

Students are responsible for maintaining their instruments in optimal condition throughout the course of their lessons.

For guitar students, it's important to change the strings at regular intervals—typically every 6 to 12 months. Should you require assistance with restringing or other minor repairs, we offer this service at a nominal fee of $50, which includes the cost of new strings.

Essential Equipment

  • Ownership or Rental: It's mandatory for each student to either own or hire an instrument for their lessons.

  • Music Stand: We highly recommend investing in a music stand. A designated place for sheet music can considerably enhance the quality of practice sessions.

  • Guitar Stand: For guitar students, a stand is advisable for easy access at home. Keeping the guitar out of its case encourages spontaneous practice sessions.

Instrument Rental Program

  • Fee Structure: Guitars and keyboards are available for rent at a rate of $5 per week for an indefinite period.

  • Billing: This rental fee will be conveniently added to your regular fortnightly direct debit payment.

  • No Contract Periods: We offer the flexibility of no lock-in contracts.

  • No Deposit: Given our trust in our students' care for their instruments, we do not require a deposit.

  • Replacement Policy: In the unlikely event that the instrument becomes damaged, lost, or stolen, a replacement fee of $50 will apply.

Your child's progress is significantly impacted by the quality and condition of their instrument and other equipment. Thank you for ensuring that they have the tools necessary for success.
